Summer is Lame

There was a period in my life when summer was my favorite time of year. I would swim all day or take five-hour naps or play basketball or tennis until it was too dark to see. Late at night I'd watch The Arsenio Hall Show long after I would have already been asleep the rest of the year, then I'd sleep in the next morning until The Price is Right was on. TV programming was the only reason I ever knew what time it was. I had no responsibility... nothing to accomplish or work on. Summer vacation was a three-month break from everything. By the depressing first day of school each fall, I had completely forgotten how to read and write from a summer of allowing my brain to atrophy inside my sun-baked head. Summer was wonderful... then I got older.

Now summer is the same as every other time of year except there's a lot more yard work, there's no football or basketball on TV, and I burst into flames every time I get in my car. Any season that includes weekly lawn-mowing is an enemy to me. I'm ready for fall... with its 70-degree days, football season, and the return of entertaining TV. Summer's so lame.

I totally agree! I'm so ready for summer to be over.

Abso-frickin'-lutely.

Although, if my lawnmower looked like the one you've drawn, I think I'd mow the lawn more often. Wicked cool.

I think I'd have to agree with ya....especially this year. It is SO FREAKIN' HOT that I can't even stand to play outside with my kiddies. It's so hot, that I have actually started going TANNING again so that I don't have to sit OUTSIDE to get tan. LOL! And I hear ya on the TV thing..which really is rather sad if you think about it. But other than "So You Think You Can Dance," I got nothin!!!!!!! Drives me crazy. I realize that NOW should be the time of year where we actually get things done, but I just don't feel like a complete person without my TV SHOW LINE-UP! LOL! Yeah..I would have to agree...summer was a lot cooler when we were young.

As much as I'd hate to be Nelson, laughing at your demise with pointed finger... I'm in college. And as much as it sucks to be broke as a joke, who's laighing when most of my time I spend on blogs like this one, haha! thanx for making my summer vacation a fun one ;)

I don't get to have a care-free summer anymore either. And now my job makes me work 10 hour days (but I get Friday off). So I either get to mow the lawn after an incredibly long day, or waste valuable weekend time, sigh.

On another note, excellent drawing as always!

Great picture Shane - the grass is really impressive - you've got the lighting just right! Fabulous stuff!

Awesome work as always, Shane. I really need to get moving on Toon Club. Man, mowing lawns isn't fun, but mowing lawns with an ELECTRIC mower is death x 50. Managing the power cord is for the dogs :P

What kind of pen do you use for clean-up on your drawings?

I cleaned this one up with a "Uniball Vision," or at least that's what it says on the pen, so I assume that's right.

I never used an electric mower, but I've seen people with them, and I've thought, "That looks dangerous." I don't need electrical cords following me around while I mow... I know that.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I feel kind of bad that I reminded everyone how lame summer is, but yesterday while I was pulling weeds and mowing the lawn for two and a half hours, I remembered that I was right... summer's lame... and so are you, Josh.
