I've always loved being in the ocean... riding the waves... struggling for breath... trying to free my arms from the kelp and sea weed that entangles them... the taste of salt in my nose... and don't get me started on the deadly sea creatures. If I'm at the beach, I'm only on the beach long enough to get to the water. No resting on the sand for me - I love being in the ocean.
My favorite of all oceanic features is undertoe. I remember being told by my mom when I was a child to "be careful - the undertoe will pull you right out to sea." I didn' t really know what undertoe was, but I was very against what it intended to do to me. This old man is a victim of undertoe. Luckily for him, he has a yellow tube. He should be able to flag down a plane or a cruise ship with it, you'd think. And give him a coule more days... his sunburned skin will be visible from space. Here's a closer view of The Old Man and the Sea:

I remember as a kid feeling a tug here and there when the waves receded.
Your concept is disturbingly hilarious...
To think it could have been me!
ha!!! i love the bright red sunburn.....poor guy.
There's something very cool about the first piece, with the little old man in the big sea. Love the style and coloring, simple, yet very appealing, just great!

I was laughing out loud when i saw this picture. Ahh, the hilarity of truth. I kinda feel like maybe he deserves being out there because he he stole that floaty from some little boy. it tells a great story. Thanks for the inspiration.
hmmmm. haven't I seen that somewhere before. Yeah, I'm pretty sure I have. I do like it though.

always beautiful!!!
love this!
I love your pig with wings, he is so loveable. It's fun to see how professionals approach the IF words. I like the far away perspective and the close up of the crispy old-guy, very nice work.
Sorry I didn't even do something new for Illustration Friday this week... I was out of town, but I still wanted to have something for it. This was what matched "Clean" the best of the things I had access to. I'll do something closer to the topic this Friday. Thank you all for your comments! I always love the comments.
I like it. Love the sunburn detail and the clean lines.
