My Very Own Office
Got this new job... got my own office. This drawing of me in my office is a little unfair, because I actually have a computer, a desk, and a phone. This isn't exactly how my new office looks, but it's exactly how it feels. The rest of my department is down the hall to the right. Sometimes I can hear them laughing or working on stuff. By the time I get there the laughing is already gone. So it's pretty much just me... sitting quietly in my office. I don't have a key card yet, so my access to the building is limited. If I go to the bathroom, I get locked out in the hall, so I have to borrow someone else's key card if I use the restroom. It's like asking your 3rd grade teacher for a hall pass, but somehow even more demeaning. Yesterday I got my hands on some paper and a pencil shortly after lunch. That was like getting a promotion... and on my very first day! I have my own office. It's quiet and flourescently lit.

I'm so jealous. You've got a sweet chair.
This is a sadder drawing than your Oswald for Toon Club.
A couple more nails in the wall, some exposed wiring... you could have a pretty sweet set up.
Looks like you could hear a pin drop. You need to get a huge stereo system, then people will come down the hall to your office.
:)=
Hey Shane, I love your blog. I love your illustration work - this one of your new office is great! Hopefully by now you at least have a plant or two in there. =) Hey, anyone who loves animation, particularly the Song of the South (and is a Star Wars fan) is all right in my book! Glad to meetcha! -rob
Hey, how come your hit counter goes up by 2 everytime i hit refresh, instead of by 1? hmmm... i think the little hamster that keeps score in the background might have had a little too much coffee today!
that look on your toon-self is priceless
great job conveying that "echo"-y feeling & that expression is priceless.
Sitting here in the "creative" cubical farm, I wish I could relate to your problem ;). However, I vote for the stereo idea that someone else mentioned.
Nice toon. I bet you could hear a mouse fart in that room. That works on two levels if you add your computer. Oh wait, I just ruined that joke, didn't I? Crap.
"..it's flourescently lit." - great phrase! Hope things are less quiet for you next week!
Hmmm... has office -I'm jealous; isolated and belittled -I'm thankful... it's a tough call. :-)
Well illustrated! I especially like the nails in the wall... just screams "we got our stuff out, what else do you want?"
hehee...great interpretation! great work!
this is just great! love your expression :)
Terrific illustration! I know what you mean. I have a nice office and I have a good stereo in there and a nice view but it's definitely not like being part of the gang out in cubicle land. (But I wouldn't go back for anything!) You really captured the perfect bewildered expression. Congratulations on getting an office. Once you get it set up you'll love it.
in no time at all, you'll be forging your hall passes (you're an artist, after all) and even getting access to the copy room! good luck!
you visually conveyed your words perfectly!
I hope you end up liking the new job.
awww... that is such a great drawing! it makes me feel bad that your all alone in your new office... with a little flowers it could really be something lol
Having an office is something to be proud of especially if you are just starting your new job. It is a privilege and gives you privacy to do your own thing.
