As a kid I had glorious visions of filling up our entire house with water and swimming from room to room. It never bothered me that most of my possessions would be destroyed in the flood or that my family would immediately die from electrocution if someone were to turn on the TV. Even knowing that the lack of breathing would only allow me to enjoy my aquatic wonder-home for about a minute before I drowned didn't stand in my way. All imaginable impossibilities aside, there was only one reason I never actually turned on all of the faucets and flooded the house. You guessed it... sharks.Heaven knows, as soon as your house if full of water, it's only a matter of two or three minutes before sharks show up. And despite what shark experts keep telling me, sharks ARE mindless, eating machines.
Now that I think about it, though, it's not just incoming sharks that sour me on this idea. I've just realized that a small portion of my house-pool would inevitably be made up of at least some percentage of toilet water. So if it weren't for sharks and toilet water, this would be an excellent idea. But as reality stands, I don't think I'll flood my house on purpose... probably.
I love this picture! Sharks and toilet water are definitely a bad combination. Always remember though that all of that moisture must dry out or else you'll end up with a house that looks like the cheese that's been sitting in my fridge for way too long.
ReplyDeleteI actually filled my basement with water once when I was a kid. Somehow I got my 3 year old brother to take the garden hose and put it through the window. The idea was that I would get to have fun playing with my boats on the basement floor while putting the blame on my little brother. It was fun, and I found out our house wasn’t level. One end of the basement was two feet deep (the fun end), while the other was only about an inch deep. I really hope that I never have any creative children.

ReplyDeleteI see this a common childhood fantasy (with some even trying to do it or some close proximity to it) - now made even better with a visualization. I don't think I ever got as far as worrying about sharks and toilet water and mostly, my biggest concern was about getting all my stuff wet.
ReplyDeleteFunny post and picture. I think I imagined filling the house with water too, but for me it was a nightmare because I couldn't swim and was terrified of water (I always told my mom I wanted to be a shark when I grew up, but I screamed when she tried to put me into the bathtub. Go figure).
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of how I always wanted to stand on a cloud like they do in cartoons and Mary Poppins. I can't remember when I found out that you couldn't really do that but I was very disappointed.

ReplyDeleteOh my crud...I can totally see my Kaden doing this..."just to see what it would be like." I love how kids think. Sometimes I tend to think just like they do...as you do in this entry. People usually just laugh when you "wonder" about things. Having a little boy has definitely kept me on my toes. I now know exactly how many seconds I have from the time the bathroom faucet goes on, to the moment it begins to overflow. LOL! I wish I was kidding. It would help if our bathroom sinks had the little draining hole thingey. Who the HECK decided that it would be a good idea to even MAKE a sink without a draining hole?! Dumb. Wish we would have caught that earlier...would have saved us a lot of mopping. LOL! Anyway...love this entry and the drawing...those puffed cheeks are so cute. LOL!

hahaha ~ i love the way you put a story to your work, it makes it so much more fun and exciting :) i always wondered if i could flood my house as a kid too, but, then again, my mom always kept at least one window open and foiled my plans of an under-water fun house! curses!!

ReplyDeleteAs for visions of rooms full of water, it was my childhood's dream, too. I didn't even think about toilet water or sharks, I was just afraid that our flat is not water-tight enough, otherwise it would have been brilliant idea :)
