Super Gorilla

In Christopher Reeve’s Superman II, Clark reveals to Lois that he is actually Superman by removing his glasses. She never saw through his intricate disguise before that moment? Way to go, Lois... you're being bumped up to detective. As long as the Daily Planet staff was dumb as dirt, Clark Kent might as well have been a gorilla. Why is Clark never around when Super Gorilla shows up? I wonder if they're the same... wait - Clark's a gorilla who wears glasses.

One other thing that's different about Super Gorilla is that he can't fly. He's just really strong, unless you compare him to other gorillas, in which case he's just average, kind of like how I'd be considered incredibly intelligent if I lived and worked among gorillas... or how I'd at least be considered one of the smartest... well, certainly not the dumbest... almost certainly.

  6. Weeeeeeell, actually, there was a story in Justice League of America a few years back in which Gorilla Grodd of Earth-3 created a contraption that turned Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and all the other JL's into gorillas. So historically speaking, there is a precedent for your drawing. However, I believe this was back in the days before I ever kissed a girl, so perhaps we should leave the past in the past.

Incidentally, a gorilla from Krypton would be proportionately stronger than a man from Krypton, so Supergorilla could totally kick Superman's hiney. Whatever, I'm just impressed he tied that tie.

Great drawing! I laughed my head off as usual.

  12. I love how his tailor fitted suit doesn't even come close to fitting. And I've always been a bit bewildered by the fact that curling a locke of hair over your forehead and taking off your glasses can fool so many people. But then most journalists are Democrats, so there you go.

Gorilla's (even the 'normal' ones) rock!

  14. Lovin' the fur poofing out from the sleeve... you always manage to slip in subtle details like that that really add a lot of appeal to your work. Great stuff!

  19. I've been looking at your site for the last couple of months and I'm super impressed. I've been in the game industry for about 12 years now. Lucasarts for over 9 years and now I'm at EA in florida.

Can you give any info on your painting techniques. I've been fiddeling with doing cartoons.

Your stuff is very clean and I love the line quality. Any chance you can post some contact info?

And, Jim - I just added a "contact" link to my profile. It's to an email address I don't check a lot, but I'll try to remember occasionally.

Thanks again for the feedback, everyone!

  23. Good points - I always thought the same thing. I wear glasses and when I take them off, the people I work with everyday aren't saying "now, who are you again? are you new?" And when I take my glasses off, my voice doesn's change from a high pitch to a more masculine pitch...or does it?
